Article Marketing

Improve Your Article Marketing

Article marketing works! Submitting articles to article directories will get you traffic and it will get your pages back-links to give you some Google juice.

On the downside, it is a time-consuming and often monotonous undertaking.

Assuming you are doing some pre-writing keyword research, and the content of your article is good, one of the key factors in getting high readership lies in your title.

The stronger your title, the more people you will have click to read. Each article you write should target a specific keyword phrase.

Of course that keyword phrase should appear in your title, but not just in the title–in the beginning of it. Consider the two following examples:

* Get Healthy With Organic Gardening

* Organic Gardening: 3 Ways It Can Make You Healthier

The second headline puts the keywords right up front which may be helpful for SEO purposes. It also lets the reader know immediately what the main topic is.

So look at your titles. Are they powerful? Do they target your niche readers? And–are your keywords at the front of your subject line? Those things will help.

I’ll be sharing ways to make your article marketing easier and more profitable in future posts but for now you may want to check out the tool that I use to submit my articles to hundreds of directories.

Niche Research

One of the Secrets To Internet Marketing Success

One of the biggest mistakes I see beginners make in online marketing has to do with RESEARCH!

Too many people begin developing web pages, setting up niche blogs, or creating ebooks or videos without doing proper research.

Research begins with:

* identifying a possible niche

* looking at monthly traffic for keywords in that niche

* looking at what your competitors are doing

In other words, what you shouldn’t do is create a product and then try to find a market for it. Instead you should do your research, find a hungry market with money to spend, find out exactly what they want ….. and then create the product to sell to them!

A great tool to start with is Google’s External Keyword Tool. It can give you numbers on how many searches are done monthly for various keywords.

It can also give you indications of how much competition there is for the keywords you are targeting.

Whether you are creating a new product, or doing article marketing, video marketing, setting up pre-sell or landing pages–keyword research is vital to your success.

Find out what keywords are getting all of the traffic and position your offers right in front of that traffic. That’s the real key to success.

Without doing your research first, you are throwing darts at a moving target in the dark.

I’ll be covering lots of other ways to do your research in my IM Shortcut email newsletter.

How to Create the Most Effective Squidoo Lens

Before you actually decide on your Squidoo lens title and URL you will want to do a little research into the main keyword phrase you want to target for your lens. By this I mean–what is likely the most common keyword phrase people would use to find your page through Google?

You probably have an idea for what this keyword phrase would be already. If you have your own ebook you might use the name of your ebook. However, unless tons of people have heard about your ebook you probably won’t get many people searching for it on Google. You might want to choose a phrase related to the topic of your ebook instead (if that’s what you want to promote).

One good way to do keyword research for your main search term is to go to Google’s External Keyword Tool. You can use this for free. You simply enter a keyword phrase and Google will give you the number of searches for that term done each month. Google will also give you many dozens, perhaps hundreds of suggestions for keywords related to yours.

Doing this is important because you want to target a keyword phrase that will get you sufficient Google traffic to your lens from organic search listings.

How many searches a month do you need to make your lens profitable? There is not definitive answer. Myself, I like to target keyword phrases that get a couple thousand searches a month. However, the product price, profit margin (commission rate), up-sells, and OTO’s will affect your bottom line.

In my next post we will look at important things to add to your lens–and, important things to do to keep visitors on your lens as long as possible.
