Do you need to attract more diners
to your restaurant?

Are you looking for new, effective, restaurant marketing solutions during these tricky times?

I spoke to a restaurant owner recently, whose name was Dimitri, and he had the same fears and frustrations that I have heard from a number of restaurant owners since the cost-of-living crisis...

The outlook for his business was not good. There were no signs of the economy improving and no sign of any increase in customers coming to eat with him. In fact, many of his regular customers seemed to be stopping eating out so often and his attempts at enticing new customers hadn't got him far.

He was trying to do what he'd always done... pay for ads in his local newspaper, but the ads were not only very expensive, but were attracting fewer and fewer people to his restaurant.

His biggest fears were: Going out of business, not being able to pay himself or his staff, losing the restaurant and his livelihood. He feared having to tell his waiters and waitresses that their jobs had to go. He feared telling his daughter that he no longer had his restaurant and was in debt with no income.

His biggest frustration was that he knew his food was first class but he couldn't get enough people to come and eat there so they can discover how good it really is.

Free Restaurant Marketing Guide

I'm hoping that your situation is not as serious as Dimitri's, but as you've found my website, I'm guessing that you've not been getting the results you want from your restaurant marketing, and you are looking for new ways to attract new diners to your restaurant, as well as tempt previous diners to come back to you more frequently?

First though, let's have a look at what most restaurants do to attract new diners...

Newspaper Ads & Flyers

Many restaurants still depend on traditional restaurant marketing options including placing adverts in the local newspaper and pushing flyers (or menus) through local letterboxes.

But both of these methods are not only quite costly, they are also one-hit-wonders! In other words,  an ad that is in the paper one night, is in the bin the next day. So you constantly need new ads to keep attracting new diners or they just don't appear.

Are you still depending on these outdated methods and so are being left behind by other local restaurants?

Websites, Facebook Pages and Twitter

I totally agree that every restaurant should have a website, a Facebook page and a Twitter account. Unfortunately though, whilst "Build it and they will come" was a great saying in a film, it just isn't true with regards to websites and social media.

They all actually need quite a lot of regular effort to ensure they get seen by potential diners.

What do your own stats tell you? How many visitors do you get to your website each week? If you post to your Facebook page, how many people get to see each post?

Are you like many restaurateurs who find that these methods actually bring them very few new diners?

And even when you do tempt someone
to your restaurant for the first time...

What are the chances of that
new diner becoming a regular customer?

Well, TV restaurant guru John Taffer says that the chances are...

40%
After 1 Visit
42%
After 2 Visits
71%
After 3 Visits

So, even if your food and service are superb, the chances of a first time diner coming back again

is only around 40%. This figure then rises slightly to 42% if they do come back a second time...
but then jumps to a massive 71% after 3 visits!

In other words... unless you can find a method to encourage every new diner to visit you three times,
then there is less than a 50% chance of that diner ever returning, let alone becoming a regular customer!

What do you do to ensure that a new diner returns?

If you're like most restaurants, you probably use the method that I call 'Hope Marketing'...

You HOPE that your good food and good service will tempt them to return again and hopefully become a regular customer.  This could well happen of course, but as you've seen from the figures above, your chances are less than 50/50!

You really are just HOPING it will happen!

OK! Enough of the doom and gloom!

We've looked at the restaurant marketing techniques (or lack of) that most restaurants use and find they give poor, inconsistent returns, or just no longer work, but I'm pleased to tell you that I can show you how you can easily...

  • Find and attract new diners to your restaurant
  • Turn your new diners into regular customers
  • Tempt your regular customers to come back more frequently
